Hoysala Temples Architecture | Magnificent temples in Mysore

The Chennakesava Temple also referred to as Chennakeshava Temple, Keshava Temple or Kesava Temple, is a Hoysala temple located near Mysore.

Hoysala Temples Architecture:

Surprisingly, the architecture of Hoysala Temples is something that needs to be seen to be believed.

This Vaishnava Hindu temple is situated on the banks of River Kaveri at Somanathapura, Karnataka, India.

Furthermore, the temple was consecrated in 1258 CE by Somanatha Dandanayaka, a general of the Hoysala King Narasimha III.

Also, the temple is the perfect illustration of the Hoysala architecture. In addition, this temple is enclosed in a courtyard with corridor full of pillars of small shrines, which are now damaged.

The main building in the center is placed on a high star-shaped platform. Moreover, the outer walls, the inner walls, the pillars and the ceiling of the temple are intricately carved with theological iconography of Hinduism and display extensive friezes of Hindu texts such as the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the Bhagavata Purana.
