The Jewish Synagogue popularly known as the Paradesi Synagogue is the oldest active synagogue in the city of Cochin, Kerala. However, out of the seven synagogues in the area, this one is the only one that is still in use.
Moreover, Paradesi stands for ‘foreigners’, which is suitable as this was built by Sephardic or Spanish-speaking Jews. Also, it is referred to as Cochin Jewish Synagogue or the Mattancherry Synagogue.
