India is long since been famous for yoga and meditation. Large number of people from around the world throng here for yoga recreations and meditation in the country.
In fact, there are a lot of yoga centres in India, the most famous of which are in Mysore and Rishikesh. But it all goes down which one is the best for you.
Therefore, I have listed here the top yoga centres in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand where you should be heading if you’re on a recreational journey to India.
Located in the banks of the Ganges river, this is considered one of the best yoga centres in Rishikesh. Also, the serene Ganges makes it a beautiful experience to try yoga.
Set in the lap of Mother Nature, this Rishikesh Ashram for Yoga attracts multitudes of pilgrims world-wide. Moreover, it has 1,000 rooms on eight acre campus, with various rates (on a “donation” basis from₹ 300 per person, per day). Also, it depends on the standard of accommodations and view. Swami Yogeshwaranand Paramahans Yoga Niketan, a renowned master of Raj Yoga found this ashram. The teachings of this ashram, which is located in the Muni-Ki-Reti area of Rishikesh, are based solely on eight fold path as per the Patanjali yoga shastra.
Sprawling of 7 acres of land, the ashram is surrounded by lush greenery and picturesque landscape. The pollution free and noiseless environment creates perfect ambiance for the practice of yoga.
One may feel surprised with the amount of foreign students and international visitors eager to learn yoga. Visitors have the facility of accommodation at the adjacent guest house and yoga classes in the ashram, whereas yoga aspirants or students are required to stay at least 15 days for a standard yoga course.
Swami Dayanand Ashram is an ideal centre for learning about yoga and Vedanta and Sanskrit. It is located in picturesque surroundings, around 10 minutes walk from the Ram Jhula area.
Regular residential courses are conduced there, with focus on Bhagavad Gita and the ten principal Upanishads.
Along with many residential teachers, Swami Dayanand himself conducts regular classes here. Classes are conducted in English and that is what attracts foreign aspirants to come here. The ashram has a small accommodation for visitors; therefore it is necessary to make reservations in advance.
Meaning “Land of Flowers”, PhoolChattiis renowned for its frequent seven day yoga and meditation program.The teachings are different from many others as they focus on the full spectrum of the yogic path and ashram life, not just asanas (postures).
Besides the serene and scenic surroundings, clean rooms, modern amenities and healthy meals facilities makes PhoolChatti a popular yoga training institute. You can enjoy sessions of effective yoga in the midst of ethnic environment and clutter of modern amenities.
This Ashram offers their own style of yoga called Akhanda Yoga, which has holistic, non-sectarian teachings. It offers 18 spic and span rooms with 3 meals a day. Like many other yoga institutes in Rishikesh, this ashram also offers different course including Akhanda yoga, classical Kundalini and Hatha-Raja yoga.
Stays at the ashram including yoga, accommodations, and meals are from 700 rupees ($15) per person, per night. There are 18 rooms, and a minimum three nights stay is required.
Yoga classes for non-residents are 150 rupees for afternoon classes and 200 rupees for morning classes. The ashram also runs 200 hour and 500 hour Yoga Teacher Training programs.
Situated at a short walk up the hill from AnandPrakesh, the compact Himalayan Yoga Ashram teaches the practice of Himalayan Yoga. They are based on the Vedic tradition, which forms the base for all different paths of yoga.
The programs consists of a combination of yoga postures, breathing, meditation, and spiritual teachings. Various Ayurvedic healing programs are offered as well.
The minimum stay at the ashram is a week, but two weeks are recommended to obtain maximum benefit. As well as the teachings, guests praise this ashram for its great food, beautiful environment, and welcoming hosts.
