About the Place
About the Place
- Sakkara Pyramid: Located 27 km southwest of Cairo, Sakkara is home to the famous Step Pyramid, built for Pharaoh Zoser during the Third Dynasty. The Step Pyramid marks a crucial point in the evolution of pyramid construction, transitioning from the earlier mastaba tombs to the iconic pyramid shape. It is part of the larger necropolis that served as a burial ground for ancient Egyptian royals and elite.
- Dahshur Pyramids: About 40 kilometers south of Cairo, Dahshur is home to two of the most remarkable pyramids in Egypt—the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid. Built during the Fourth Dynasty, these pyramids are known for their well-preserved structures and the innovative architectural changes that marked the shift from step-sided to smooth-sided pyramids. The Bent Pyramid, with its unique angle, and the Red Pyramid, Egypt’s first true smooth-sided pyramid, are both fascinating examples of ancient Egyptian engineering.
- Memphis: Once the capital of ancient Egypt, Memphis is located just south of Cairo and was founded around 3100 BCE by the first pharaoh of Egypt, King Narmer. The city served as a political and cultural hub for much of Egypt’s ancient history. Today, visitors can see the colossal statue of Ramses II, one of Egypt’s most powerful pharaohs, and the famous Alabaster Sphinx. Memphis is a UNESCO World Heritage site and an essential stop for anyone looking to explore Egypt's rich and ancient past.
